Burton Albion boss Gary Bowyer has admitted that Huddersfield Town are one of the favourites for automatic promotion from League One as he looks for the Brewers to get the better of them this weekend.

Huddersfield were active during the summer transfer window to bolster their squad ahead of the season and made multiple signings.

They were also in the race to sign Leeds United talent Harry Gray, but the player eventually joined Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Terriers have had a decent start to their League One campaign so far, with 12 points after seven games.

Huddersfield Town suffered a 2-1 defeat against Bromley in their last game and boss Martin Drury has since had some time to regroup and plan for the games ahead.

The Terriers are now set to face Burton Albion in an away League One game this weekend.

Burton Albion boss Bowyer admitted that Huddersfield Town are one of the favourites for automatic promotion, pointing to the quality of the squad they have assembled and the strength they have shown so far.

He praised Huddersfield manager Martin Drury, having previously worked with him at Bradford City, while Bowyer highlighted Drury’s detailed approach and his strong desire to succeed.

The Burton boss knows his side will face another difficult test, but he has backed his players to embrace the challenge and give everything when they meet the promotion contenders.

Bowyer also stressed the standards he demands from his squad, revealing his satisfaction that the players have continued to meet those expectations so far.

Speaking in a press conference (6:13), he said: “For me, they are one of the favourites to get automatic promotion. It is as simple as that.

“With the squad they have put together, really, really good coach, worked with him at Bradford.

“Martin is very, very detailed, very focused, very driven to succeed and that looks like the work he has done already in his team.

“We know its going to be real challenge for us again, but these lads we have got, they love taking challenges on.

“As long as they give their absolutely everything, that’s it.

“We demand standards and so far they have hit those standards for us.”

Burton Albion beat Huddersfield 3-1 the last time the two sides met, in January, while they have not lost a game against the Terriers since 2016.
