There aren’t many fan favourites in common between PSG and Chelsea. Claude Makelele is one of them, and we’ve already heard a little from him about how he thinks the game tonight will go.
Thiago Silva is another, and he’s given his thoughts today on how he thinks the match might work out. The defender is still playing in Europe with Porto, and is famously studying to become a manager, so he knows his stuff.
“I watch a lot of football. Chelsea’s schedule is insane. Chelsea played seven games in March, while Paris played four – almost 50% more in the legs,” the defender said in quotes picked up by TNT Sport.
“That might not make it easier exactly, but physically I think Paris might be a little more prepared. I wouldn’t call a favourite in this match – not just because I played for both teams, but because I think it will be a very difficult game to decide who goes through.”
Let’s hope he’s wrong. The number of games we’ve played is certainly a worry, and will only get worse next week as the Parisians have been given the weekend between legs off by Ligue 1. But we were able to rest the bulk of our first team against Wrexham anyway, and freshness shouldn’t be an issue in this first leg.
Mamadou Sarr isn’t likely to start tonight, but he’s been speaking about what an impact Liam Rosenior has had on him.
