Thierry Rendall is being lined up by Venezia FC after deciding not to renew at Valencia. Gianluca Di Marzio reports talks are at a decisive stage, with the right-back expected in Venice shortly to sign and view the facilities.

Venezia’s hierarchy are pushing for a final yes from the Sporting CP product. Their pitch is a leading role in their Serie A return and a project they believe could trump rival offers.

His deal ends on 30 June and he will not renew. After 11 months out and no pre-season, a hamstring setback arrived just as he found rhythm, and he said the fragile tag hurt him mentally and led him to play when he should not. He praised the backing of more than 40,000 at Mestalla.
