Thomas Meunier joins Sunderland on free as strongest XI assessed | OneFootball

Thomas Meunier has joined Sunderland on a free transfer, becoming the club’s first signing of the summer window on a two-year deal.

According to Sunderland Echo, the 34-year-old right-back featured at this summer’s World Cup, where Belgium reached the last 16 before a 2-1 defeat against Spain. He left Lille earlier this month and became a free agent.

Meunier brings significant European experience to a squad bound for the Europa League, having played in the Champions League and Europa League with Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Lille.

He said he is excited to start at the Stadium of Light, impressed by the club’s ambition and project. The chance to test himself in the Premier League and compete in Europe also influenced his decision.
