Tommy Miller steps down as Spennymoor Town manager | OneFootball

Tommy Miller has stepped down as manager of National League North side Spennymoor Town, the former Sunderland and Ipswich Town midfielder leaving the role.

The club said in a statement that his decision followed an increase in his business commitments. The 47-year-old previously led the Moors in 2020/21, then returned earlier this year as interim alongside Matty Dolan after Graeme Lee departed.

Appointed permanently in the summer, his second spell began with a 1-1 draw at title favourites Morecambe, then a 2-1 home win over Merthyr Town. They then took no points against Oxford City at Brewery Field, or away at Scarborough Athletic and Bedford Town. Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hednesford Town proved his final game, with his exit confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Miller praised supporters for their backing across both spells, thanked Brad and Jason for the opportunity to return, and acknowledged the efforts of staff and players last season and this. He wished the club every success.

Head of football Jason Ainsley will take interim charge, supported by first-team player-coach Matty Dolan and head of club development Gavin Cogdon. Their first assignment comes on Saturday at National League North rivals Hereford.
