Wednesday marks the 70th all-time meeting between two of Major League Soccer's original teams. The LA Galaxy travel to the Rocky Mountains in order to play the Colorado Rapids.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have made mince-meat out of the Rapids as of late. Last year, counting the playoffs, the LA Galaxy have scored at least three goals in the past four games (4-0-0) against Colorado

This time out, the Los Angeles Galaxy have won just one regular-season game in their first 18 games. Colorado has only managed to win three, as both teams enter Wednesday with 18 goals on the season.

Here is a rundown of five memorable meetings during MLS play between the LA Galaxy and the Colorado Rapids.

5. You always remember your first: June 30th, 1996

The LA Galaxy and the Colorado Rapids met for the first time on the last day of June during the Inaugural MLS season in 1996. Despite losing 2-1 at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado, the LA Galaxy would go on to have a better season.

Shaun Bartlett and Jean Harbor made sure of the win for Colorado as the LA Galaxy only scored once. Eduardo Hurtado found the back of the net for the MLS Western Conference juggernauts for the teams only goal.

Not only did the Los Angeles Galaxy finish with the best record in the MLS Western Conference, but they were one win away from taking the league's first championship. Instead, D.C. United etched their name into the history books.

Though the Rapids watched the 1996 postseason from home, they took good notes as they, too, would lose in the MLS Finals to DC United the next year.

4. LA Galaxy lose to Rapids, 4-0, during dismal season

The season opener would be a taste of things to come for both teams. Not only was this the biggest win for the Colorado Rapids of the 2008 MLS regular season, but it was also one of the lowest for the LA Galaxy.

Terry Cooke, Omar Cummings, and Colin Clark added a score for Colorado. Christian Gómez joined the offensive frenzy with a penalty kick, too.

The LA Galaxy would suffer the first of seven shutouts in 2008. The Rapids would miss the playoffs by two points in the MLS Western Conference standings.

3. LA Galaxy's 6-0 shutout against the Colorado Rapids in 2014

On their way to eventually winning their fifth MLS Cup, the Los Angeles Galaxy were clicking on all cylinders. Especially in their game on September 5th, 2014.

At home, the LA Galaxy weren't very kind to their guest, the Colorado Rapids. Landon Donovan scored a penalty kick in the early minutes. That would have been enough but his teammates got in on the fun as Baggio Hušidić and Gyasi Zardes added a goal in the first half, too.

A second penalty kick from Donovan made it 4-0 early in the second half. Hušidić and Zardes matched their captain's output as both players scored, again.

1 & 2: 2024 MLS Playoffs, Opening Round

Not just because it's the most recent outing, but the two game sweep for the LA Galaxy paved the way for a historic playoff run. In addition to removing the Colorado Rapids from the playoffs, the LA Galaxy went on to set a record for most goals scored in a playoff run (18).

In the regular season finale, the Galaxy stumbled into the playoffs when they lost 2-1 against the Houston Dynamo. That loss gave LAFC the tiebreaker to own the top seed in the MLS Western Conference playoffs and placed the LA Galaxy in the second seed.

The LA Galaxy have only been eliminated from the playoffs by Colorado once. They were on the right side of history in this pair of postseason games. It started with a 5-0 demolition in the opening game of the first-round match-up.

In addition to Dejan Joveljic and Riqui Puig scoring two goals each, defender John Nelson found the back of the net for his first time with the LA Galaxy. His goal would have been enough with keeper John McCarthy pitching the shutout.

Game 2 was almost as dominant. Playing on the road in the potential closeout game was critical for the LA Galaxy to sustain success in the rest of the playoffs.
