Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a new deal for right-back Pedro Porro, as the North London outfit looks to ward off transfer interest, per Fabrizio Romano.
The Spurs defender has been linked with an exit following two objectively bad seasons, but it appears he will sign a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2030.
Porro has been a top addition to the ranks, impressing with his attacking thrust and relentless engine.
Defensively, he can be suspect, but he more than makes up for it on the attacking front.
The 26-year-old bagged two goals and six assists in 47 appearances last term, earmarking himself as one of the best in the world in his position.
Real Madrid and Manchester City have been linked with the Spain international (18 caps), but he is ‘untouchable’ to Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi.
If Spurs are to build on their promising start under the Spurs tactician, then keeping players like Porro will be key.
Keeping talented players like Luka Vuskovic is also very important.
With Tottenham pushing to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jan Paul Van Hecke, they have asked for the Croatian.
They tend to do things like this when clubs come aggressively for their players (ask Chelsea).
Tottenham must stand firm in the negotiations. Agreeing to sacrifice Vuskovic as part of the deal would be a major mistake.
The Croatian teenager is regarded as one of Europe’s brightest defensive prospects and represents the future of Tottenham’s defence.
Tottenham should have the ambition and financial strength to pursue Van Hecke without surrendering one of their most valuable young assets.
Spurs need both proven performers and elite prospects. Landing Van Hecke while retaining Vuskovic would be smart business.
Losing the Croatian to get the deal done would be an unnecessary and potentially costly blunder.
