Tottenham Hotspur have expressed an interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt attacker Jean-Matteo Bahoya this summer, according to The Athletic.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club want reinforcements in the final third and have held talks with the French winger’s representatives before the window began.
However, Spurs have yet to contact Frankfurt for talks as Bahoya has never been seen as a primary target.
The 21-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal and is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia.
The left winger is a brilliant dribbler, completing 2.78 take-ons per 90 last season.
The record is better than 94 per cent of the wingers in Europe’s top five leagues, and Tottenham could do with such a player.
Bahoya is also Bundesliga’s fastest player, the only player in Bundesliga history to surpass 37km/h since records began.
Only three have done it in the Premier League, with Spurs’ Micky van de Ven the fastest in England.
Bahoya’s all-time record top speed is 37.16 km/h, and having him and Van de Ven – whose record is 37.38 km/h – in the team will cause plenty of problems during counterattacks.
Only four Premier League players completed more take-ons per 90 in the league last season than Bahoya, while only two outperformed him in the Bundesliga.
His ability to consistently beat his man is something Spurs need in attack, and the Frenchman is also a great passer and finisher.
The Tottenham target is brilliant defensively, with tackling, winning duels and making interceptions some of his strengths when not on the ball.
He bagged three goals and four assists in 27 Bundesliga games last term, and Roberto De Zerbi could make a concrete move for him if getting his top attacking targets proves abortive.
