According to ExpressAndStar.com, Tottenham prospect Will Lankshear is in advanced talks over a permanent move to Middlesbrough, with a fee and personal terms still to be finalised.

Boro, beaten play-off finalists under Kim Hellberg, first asked about the 21-year-old in January, but he opted to remain at Oxford United.

He then scored in Oxford’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in February, which was James Morrison’s first match as caretaker.

Lankshear later spent the second half of 2024/25 on loan at Albion in the Championship, making 11 appearances without a goal, just four of them starts.

Even so, his stock rose after a productive campaign with struggling Oxford, where he hit 12 in all competitions, 11 in the league, despite their relegation.

Southampton have been keen, with Wolves and Sporting Lisbon also credited with interest, but Boro are said to have stolen a march for the striker.

Spurs have already rejected multiple approaches for Lankshear, who has made three substitute appearances for the club.

Separately, Middlesbrough are set for a windfall of more than £20 million via a 20 per cent sell-on clause from Morgan Rogers’ move to Aston Villa, with Rogers poised to join Chelsea for a British-record £117 million.
