Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Arthur Vermeeren at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Marseille and worked with Roberto De Zerbi there. The Italian manager rates him highly, and he has previously described the player as a “little superstar”.
Tottenham are looking to bring him to the Premier League and are preparing a £25 million offer in order to get the deal done, according to FussballDaten. Marseille have an option to sign the player at the end of the season, but they are unlikely to exercise it due to financial constraints.
The Belgian midfielder will return to RB Leipzig at the end of the season. However, it does not seem like he’s a key player for them, and the German club is open to sanctioning his departure for the right price. The offer from Tottenham will be difficult for them to turn down.
It remains to be seen whether all parties can come to an agreement.
Vermeeren will be keen to reunite with his former manager, and he could be an important player for Tottenham next season.
They need more control and dynamism in the middle of the park, and Spurs believe that he could contribute at both ends of the pitch. Furthermore, they are looking to bring in a central midfielder with game intelligence, passing quality and press resistance. They believe that the Belgian midfielder would be a good fit.
He has the technical attributes and physicality to succeed in the Premier League, and regular football at Tottenham could help him improve further. Vermeeren has two assists across all competitions and can operate as a defensive or central midfielder.
