Transfer Dig: Stuttgart Boss Wehrle Takes a Swipe at Bayern | OneFootball

The transfer saga surrounding Nick Woltemade made plenty of headlines last summer. FC Bayern made an intensive effort to sign the then-VfB striker, but hit a brick wall with the Stuttgart club. At the VfB Stuttgart members’ meeting, CEO Alexander Wehrle looked back on the negotiations—and couldn’t resist taking a few jabs at the record champions.

After his strong Bundesliga season, Nick Woltemade was considered FC Bayern’s top transfer target in the summer of 2025. The Munich club made several offers to VfB Stuttgart but was unable to convince the club’s leadership, led by Alexander Wehrle, to sell.

In the end, the forward did make a move—but not to Munich. Newcastle United put a significantly higher transfer fee on the table and secured the services of the German international.

Wehrle mocks Bayern’s offers

At the VfB general meeting, Wehrle revisited the transfer saga. He made it clear that Stuttgart had by no means intended to deliberately annoy FC Bayern. “We didn’t want to annoy Bayern,” explained the VfB boss. From Stuttgart’s perspective, the offers from Munich simply weren’t high enough.

With a wink, Wehrle then added to the humor, drawing laughter from the members. Bayern had offered little more than “a butter pretzel” for Woltemade, the CEO joked.

There was also a dig at the DFB Cup final

But that wasn’t all. Wehrle took advantage of the good mood at the meeting to take another dig at the German record champions.

Referring to the DFB Cup final between the two clubs, the 50-year-old said, “I didn’t hear any FC Bayern fans.” The remark alluded to the atmosphere in the stadium and was met with applause from the VfB members in attendance.

On the field, however, FC Bayern had the final say in the final. Vincent Kompany’s team cruised to a 3-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart. Harry Kane emerged as the match-winner with a hat trick, leading Munich to the DFB Cup title.

It was already the record champion’s fourth victory over the Swabians last season. Following the two Bundesliga matchups and their Super Cup win, FC Bayern also prevailed in the Cup final—despite the verbal jabs from Stuttgart.
