It looks like Joao Palhinha is set to leave. According to recent reports from Portugal, the midfielder is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa.
For Joao Palhinha, his time at FC Bayern is likely to come to a definitive end soon. As reported by the Portuguese sports newspaper A Bola, the 31-year-old is on the verge of a move to Aston Villa. According to the report, the Portuguese player is expected to travel to England by the beginning of next week at the latest to finalize the transfer.
Since Aston Villa needs to address its central midfield situation on short notice due to Amadou Onana’s severe ACL injury, club officials reportedly contacted FC Bayern a few days ago, according to the report.
Reportedly, the Munich club continues to prefer a permanent sale or at least a loan with an obligation to buy. Aston Villa, on the other hand, is pushing for a purchase option.
According to A Bola, however, Bayern Munich might be willing to compromise on this point. The condition for this would be that the Premier League club covers Palhinha’s full salary. Under these conditions, officials at Säbener Straße would apparently be willing to close the deal with a purchase option as well, in order to remove the midfielder from the payroll.

For Palhinha, it would mark a return to England. Despite interest from Benfica, the Portuguese international is said to prefer staying in the Premier League.
It would also mark his second consecutive loan. Last season, Palhinha played for Tottenham Hotspur on loan. His contract with FC Bayern runs through 2028, but the 31-year-old no longer features in Munich’s sporting plans.
If the final details are worked out, Palhinha is expected to leave the record champions in the coming days and continue his career at Aston Villa.
