Two Arsenal Women stars out of Brighton clash | OneFootball

Renee Slegers confirmed that Steph Catley and Leah Williamson will both miss Arsenal’s league clash against Brighton through injury.

Williamson has missed Arsenal’s last three matches with a hamstring issue and Catley was forced off with an injury in the second leg of Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Chelsea in midweek.

Lionesses captain Williamson was called up to the latest England squad, but Slegers says that she is still not ready to play for Arsenal yet.

“Both Leah and Steph won’t be available,”Slegers said. “We were hopeful for Leah, but it’s too soon and Steph of course left the pitch with a calf injury, so she won’t be available tomorrow.”

Arsenal lost 1-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in midweek, but thanks to their 3-1 win the week before at the Emirates, it was enough for them to go through the Champions League semi finals.

But one of the main talking points was Katie McCabe pulling Chelsea forward Alyssa Thompson’s hair to stop a quick break. Slegers was asked if she has looked back at the incident.

“Yeah, I’ve seen it,” she said. “I’ve spoken to Katie today as well and he’s still very apologetic about the situation and it’s unfortunate that it’s happened.

“I think it took quite some attention from the game, because if you look at the game and the quality of football and all the big and small battles on the pitch across these two games, it was, in my opinion, a great product of women’s football.

“I think we’re really proud of that. It was a great battle against Chelsea and it’s unlucky that this incident in the game has taken so much attention, but I understand.”
