West Bromwich Albion are set for a double transfer blow following Daryl Dike's statement, with the club failing to agree terms over deals...
West Bromwich Albion are set to say farewell to numerous forward players after already confirming Daryl Dike's exit from the club earlier in the summer.
James Morrison earned the opportunity to take permanent charge after steadying the ship and ensuring West Brom retained their Championship status during the closing stages of the 2025/26 campaign. However, survival alone cannot be viewed as success.
A 21st-place finish represented the club's worst league performance since 1999/2000, underlining just how far standards have slipped at The Hawthorns. For a club of West Brom's size, stature, and support, that simply is not acceptable. Morrison's challenge now is to oversee a significant rebuild.
That means establishing a clear identity, refreshing an ageing and underperforming squad, and restoring belief throughout the club. The expectation should not be avoiding another relegation battle, but re-establishing the Baggies as genuine Championship promotion contenders again in 2026/27.

Incomings such as Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan help the club build for the future but the losses of Jed Wallace and Daryl Dike are significant in terms of quality and experience. West Brom need more of both in the coming weeks this summer.
When West Brom officially announced their released and retained list, they stated that offers had been made to Max O’Leary and Josh Maja. O'Leary has since penned a three-year deal at The Hawthorns.
It was also stated that Albion remained in dialogue with Karlan Grant regarding a new deal as well, with a decision since been made on his future and Maja's following news of their talks.
Dike has put out a statement on Instagram today but Darren Witcoop has since revealed that Maja and Grant are both set to leave on free transfers after failing to agree to new contracts with West Brom this summer.
Maja scored 19 in 81 games for the club, while the versatile Grant managed 35 goals and 10 assists in 174 appearances for the Baggies.

On the one hand, West Brom have significantly reduced their wage bill this summer following the departures of Wallace, Maja, Grant, and Dike at the end of their contracts. Collectively, those exits should free up a substantial amount of room in the club's budget, giving James Morrison greater flexibility to reshape his squad.
However, there is a clear trade-off at play here. Between them, the quartet brought plenty of Championship experience and contributed 15 of the Baggies' 52 league goals last season, accounting for almost 30% of the team's total output without even mentioning the assists on top of those goals.
Replacing that level of experience and attacking production in a single transfer window will not be straightforward, particularly with proven Championship forwards and wingers often commanding sizeable transfer fees and wages. Spending less on salaries could ultimately mean spending more on recruitment.
Time will tell if it is indeed the correct decision with each player, but it makes West Brom's rebuild all the more difficult on paper. West Brom have a lot of work to do to rebuild a team that struggled last term. Retaining Mikey Johnston and Isaac Price now appears to be of paramount importance.
