Udinese have drawn level with Lazio for eighth place in the standings.
Runjaic’s men put in a strong performance on Monday night, the 23rd matchday of Serie A.
The Friulians overcame Roma thanks to a second-half goal from Ekkelenkamp: the Roman side’s attempt to fight back was futile, as they had a stoppage-time goal ruled out for a near-offside by Tsimikas.
Speaking to DAZN after the match, Runjaic analyzed the game as follows: “I think it was more difficult after Davis’ injury. I’m very proud of the lads. Okoye made a great save towards the end. We deserved these three points; you also need a bit of luck. We maintained consistency in the Verona game, harassing Roma’s defense.”
Runjaic then continued talking about the dream of Europe: “No, it’s just a moment. I think there’s no point in talking about it now. We know which teams are above us and are stronger. That’s not our goal. We’re missing something to be able to compete with the big teams.”
