Under-15s train for back-to-back Conmebol Liga Evolução title

In pursuit of Brazil’s second title in the Conmebol Liga Evolução U-15, to be held from September 8 to 20 in Asunción, Paraguay, the team’s head coach, Bia Vaz, led a training camp for the national team at Granja Comary.

The activities began on Thursday (17) and ended this Tuesday (23) with a training match against Flamengo’s U-17 team. “We’re heading into a difficult mission, because Rubinho (former coach) won the title with these incredible players, who are now with the U-17s under Rilany. We’ve been visiting clubs and seeing the work being done by the professionals there,” praised the coach, who also serves as assistant coach of the U-17 team.

A total of 26 players took part, called up from 11 clubs: Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco da Gama Saf, Corinthians, Ferroviária, São Paulo, SESI Limeira, Grêmio, Internacional, Sport Recife, and Philadelphia Ukrainian. Also joining the delegation were professionals from the CBF and from the clubs Sport Recife, Corinthians, São Paulo, Red Bull Bragantino, and Fluminense.

“The players arrive here each time with a clearer understanding of what they’re going to do. We have huge expectations that they’ll be brave enough to play, and bring lots of passion and energy to show who they are on the pitch and what we’re building together every day,” Bia emphasized.

Debut as captain

For Marcela Bontorim, who plays for Ferroviária, the days were full of learning. “We were able to really understand what Bia proposed for us on and off the field. Off the field, we analyzed our mistakes and successes and applied them in training. It’s a good, young team, but one with a lot of quality,” said the forward.

Captain of the team in the training match against Flamengo, she took on the role for the first time with the national team: “It’s always an honor (to be captain) and to help lift the girls up when one or another has her head down, so they can give their best.”

Competition with an educational focus

In the first edition of the Liga Evolução U-15, in October 2025, also in Paraguay, Brazil were crowned champions after defeating Argentina on penalties in the grand final, in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. The tournament is part of the Evolución Program, run by the South American Football Confederation, and brings together all 10 South American national teams.

The competition has a different format: the teams are divided into two groups and play a round-robin format under a points system. The winners of each group compete for the title in a final. Matches consist of two 40-minute halves and a 15-minute break, with a third period in which integration activities and educational talks are held before the teams return to the locker room.

During the training days at Granja, the U-15 national team also took part in challenges with an educational approach. On Monday, divided into six groups, they had to prepare recipes for the coaching staff’s snack: a drinks station, healthy sweets, yam Danoninho, pumpkin and watercress salad, guacamole, and babaganoush.
