Used to it: São Paulo trio called up for Brazil U20 warm-up friendlies

São Paulo had three players, already quite used to representing their country, called up to the Brazil U-20 national team for the two friendlies against Bolivia on August 9 and 12 at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis (Rio de Janeiro).

On Tuesday (28), head coach Paulo Victor called up 24 players for the matches, which are part of the team’s preparation for the South American U-20 Championship, scheduled for January 2027. Among them are São Paulo players Angelo, a right-back, along with defensive midfielder Djhordney and attacking midfielder Pedro Ferreira, all developed in Cotia’s youth academy and frequently called up by Brazil.

The national team’s first match will be played on Sunday (9), and the second will take place on Wednesday (12), with kick-off times still to be confirmed. The games will be used by the coaching staff to assess the players, test alternatives, and put into practice concepts worked on during training periods.

The choice of opponent is part of the coaching staff’s plan for the team’s development ahead of the South American Championship. For coach Paulo Victor, the opportunity to face South American national teams brings competitiveness to friendly matches, and Bolivia, which has shown improvement in recent years, will be an important test for Brazil, which is still going through a renewal process.

“The squad list brings together a mix of players who have already been part of this new Brazil U-20 process since March, in São Paulo, along with players who are coming in for the first time, highlighting the importance of monitoring the Brazilian U-20 Championship, in Serie A and Serie B, tournaments that are very positive for us, as the Brazil U-20 coaching staff, to watch these players competing at a high level,” Paulo Victor said.
