As has so frequently been the case in recent years, Manchester United are operating on a sell-to-buy basis in the January window.

While the Old Trafford faithful could easily provide INEOS chiefs with a lengthy list of players they want to see axed before the end of the month, there are only a few options that can realistically materialise without leaving positions too depleted.

Ruben Amorim being able to rotate in midfield when necessary means the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be offloaded in the coming weeks, though the latter is out of contract in June and no clubs will want to pay a significant fee for him ahead of his terms expiring.

As for Casemiro, United have been looking to find a suitor for him since before 2024/2025  got underway. None established their interest in the summer by formally submitting a bid – but may do so mid-term to reinforce their squads.

Indeed, TBR Football claims that Al-Nassr have set their sights on the five-time Champions League winner following the departure of Seko Fofana to Rennes.

The potential switch would see Casemiro reunite with former Red and ex-Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Aymeric Laporte, Sadio Mane and Marcelo Brozovic.

Al-Nassr sit fourth-placed in the Saudi Pro League and have identified United’s No.18 as a proven, tenacious successor to occupy his role in the middle of the park. Given how Casemiro struggles to keep up with the pace of the Premier League, the prospective move will likely appeal to him.

“Casemiro is now open to the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia,” TBR Football’s report states. “The Saudi Pro League showed interest in the Brazilian last summer but an appropriate offer did not arrive at Old Trafford.

“Now, it’s understood that the Pro League are once again in touch with Casemiro’s representatives with a view to putting together a deal for January.

“But the Brazilian may now get his move with Al-Nassr in particular showing a strong interest in the midfielder. Al-Nassr have just sold Seko Fofana back to France after he completed a move to Rennes, meaning there’s a spot to fill playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane.

“And to that end, TBR understands that United are willing to take less than half the £60m they paid Real Madrid for Casemiro back in 2022.”
