Jesper Karlsson's introduction lifted the tempo after the break and de Wit turned in his cross (86.) following a set piece. The goal stood after a VAR check.

Adrian Blake then sealed it in the ninth minute of second half stoppage time, finishing a David Min pass on the counter.

Utrecht controlled the game, posting 28 attempts and 11 on target with 65.4% of the ball. Vasilis Barkas also denied André Ayew as needed. NAC Breda mustered nine attempts and only one on target, with Daniel Bielica making nine saves before being booked late on.

NAC Breda remain 17th in the relegation places. Next, Utrecht visit Ajax, while NAC Breda host Heerenveen.
