Valencia rename main training pitch in honour of José Manuel Ochotorena | OneFootball

Valencia have renamed the main training pitch at the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna in honour of José Manuel Ochotorena, coinciding with International Goalkeeper Day on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

According to Superdeporte, the ground used by the men's first team now carries his name.

General director Javier Solís said Ochotorena embodied wisdom and humility, adding that it would be impossible to repay everything he gave to the club.

The family of the former goalkeeper attended alongside Solís, CEO of Football Ron Gourlay and Academy director Luis Martínez. Also present were Valencian Football Federation president Salvador Gomar, Valencia Players' Association president Fernando Giner, club great José Manuel Sempere, former keeper Jaume Domènech, the men's first-team squad and staff, Valencia CF Femenino goalkeepers and the Academy goalkeeping department.

Ochotorena's son Andoni called it a very emotional day, saying the family were grateful for the tribute and that his father would be proud to see a plaque placed where he came every morning.
