Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders add to rivalry in Champions Cup | OneFootball

MIAMI – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continues with Vancouver Whitecaps FC hosting Seattle Sounders FC in the first leg of their Round of 16 series on Thursday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 

It will be the first Champions Cup meeting between the clubs in 10 years, and the first in the Round of 16.

The Cascadia rivals met in this tournament on two prior occasions, during the 2015/16 Group Stage, where Seattle recorded a win and a draw. 

Seattle Sounders FC begins its campaign in the Round of 16 as the 2025 Leagues Cup winners. Led by veteran captain Cristian Roldan, the club aspires to its second title after last winning in the 2022 edition. Last year, Seattle was eliminated in the Round of 16 by eventual champions Cruz Azul.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC advanced to the Round of 16 following a 2-nil aggregate win over CS Cartaginés in Round One. Kenji Cabrera and Sebastian Berhalter were the scorers in the decisive match to help the club advance.

With Thomas Müller now in the fold, Whitecaps FC aims to recreate some of last year’s magic that took the club to its first Champions Cup Final as part of a runners-up finish.

All-Time series 

Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will meet 10 years later in the Concacaf Champions Cup, and for the first time in the Round of 16. It will be their third overall meeting in the competition, with the previous encounters coming in the group stage of the 2015-2016 edition, when Seattle recorded one win and one draw.

Historically, Seattle Sounders FC leads the all-time series W-20 D-13 L-11 (GF-69 GA-47).
