Vasco are evaluating a move for Paraguayan striker Alex Arce, 31, who plays for Argentina’s Independiente Rivadavia. According to PaponaColina, the Rio club’s interest and the presence of Brazilian offers for the player emerged on Tuesday 18.

The board are scouring the South American market for an experienced penalty-box number nine ready to slot into Pedro Emanuel’s side.

With the window closing, Vasco are studying financial and contractual terms before deciding whether to lodge an official bid. Improving cutting edge for the Campeonato Brasileiro and cup campaigns is viewed internally as a priority.

The interest coincides with staff efforts to address wasteful finishing. Targets are expected to have international mileage and the temperament for the season’s run-in.

Talks remain at enquiry stage and are being weighed internally between the football department and the hierarchy. The club are reviewing Independiente Rivadavia’s demands to judge whether to advance with a formal offer in the coming days.

Arce previously featured for Cerro Porteño, Rubio Ñú and Sportivo Ameliano in Paraguay. He hit 26 in 32 for Independiente Rivadavia in 2023, then 35 in 44 for LDU Quito in 2024, and has 14 in 23 in 2026 back at the Argentine club.

Across his career he has 176 official matches, 100 goals and 10 assists, underpinned by strength, aerial threat and finishing.
