Vasco have decided to exercise their option to buy Robert Renan from Zenit for about eight million euros, securing 70% of the 22-year-old defender’s economic rights, according to PaponaColina.
His loan runs until the end of the season and the purchase deadline set by the Russian club expires in November, but the São Januário hierarchy moved early to keep a pillar of the squad. The fee is roughly R$ 48 million at current rates.
The coaching staff value his quality on the ball, physical presence at the back, and the mental leadership he shows in high-pressure moments.
A long-standing bond with the terraces and pride in wearing the shirt helped the negotiations progress. In 2026 he has played 44 matches, taking his Vasco total to 64 since arriving.
The outlay ranks among the club’s biggest recent investments, aiming to cement a high-calibre back line for Pedro Emanuel in continental knockouts and the Campeonato Brasileiro. The price also reflects resale potential given his age and regular youth national team call-ups.
The move is a response to overseas interest, with the board prioritising a settled core amid the SAF sale process and fresh financial breathing room from recent legal operations. With plans aligned, Renan remains focused on the second half as the side target cup finals and sustained Série A progress.
