Aston Villa could still pursue another winger this summer despite agreeing a loan for Alejandro Garnacho. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 22-year-old has undergone a medical and his switch from Chelsea is on track to be finalised on Thursday.
The loan is understood to include a conditional purchase option, which could lead to a four-year contract if certain terms are met. Those conditions are likely to draw UEFA scrutiny given strict rules around clubs trading players within a short timeframe.
Villa sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea this week for a British record £117m, easing immediate pressure on UEFA financial compliance. However, if any clause renders the loan effectively certain to become permanent, it would reduce the profit they can record from the Rogers sale.
Adding pace out wide has been a key brief for Unai Emery, who initially preferred to sign two players. That stance shifted as Villa rebuilt midfield after Amadou Onana’s injury and the sale of Youri Tielemans, with £90m spent on Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes.
Further wing business could follow later in the window if finances permit and departures materialise. Hull City have held talks over Leon Bailey, and Villa will listen to offers for Evann Guessand.
Emery also wants a left-back to replace Lucas Digne, who is joining Paris Saint-Germain, and a right-back.
