Villarreal have arrived in Oviedo ahead of Thursday’s fixture at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere, kicking off at 21:30, aiming to take a penultimate step towards next season’s Champions League.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the squad flew on Wednesday evening from Valencia Airport to Avilés, around 45 minutes from Oviedo, and are based at the nearby Eurostars Palacio de Cristal hotel.

Their arrival produced a warm scene as several children and ‘groguets’ gathered at the airport for autographs, with Marcelino and his players obliging and engaging kindly with supporters.

In the squad list, Nigerian midfielder Alassane Diatta is included to cover for the suspended Santi Comesaña, a notable change for the trip.

Villarreal face a significant test in Asturias against an Oviedo side fighting for their lives to remain in Primera.
