Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has made a brutal assessment of his side’s title chase after their draw against Bournemouth confirmed Arsenal as Premier League champions.
City needed three points to take the title race to the final day of the season but a stoppage time Haaland leveller was not enough to beat Andoni Iraola and Bournemouth, who secured qualification for European football for the 2026-27 season after the 1-1 draw.
Eli Junior Kroupi, who has been linked with a summer switch to the Etihad Stadium, bent in a stunning opener for the Cherries in the first-half and despite a late effort from Manchester City to somehow manage a comeback, it was too little, too late when Haaland struck brilliantly deep in injury time to secure a point for the Blues.

Arsenal have been crowned Premier League champions for the first time in 22 years after Tuesday night’s result on the south coast, with City preparing to bid farewell to manager Pep Guardiola against Aston Villa at home on Sunday.
Haaland was honest in his assessment of a valiant Manchester City effort to push Mikel Arteta‘s formidable Arsenal side to the final week of the season – whilst being at a nascent stage of their transition under director of football Hugo Viana.
However, the Norway international admitted that two seasons without winning the Premier League title is not good enough for a club like Manchester City.
“The whole club should use this as motivation now, we should be angry, we should feel the fire inside our belly because it’s not good enough,” the 25-year-old said in conversation with official club media after the draw at the Vitality Stadium.
“It’s gone two years now (without winning the Premier League), it feels like forever, and we’re going to do everything we can, everyone that will be here next season, to win the league.”
While many would argue that City exceeded expectations in giving Arsenal a real run for their money – when the title race seemed done and dusted in March – Haaland admits a cup double is not enough for his side.
Pep Guardiola issues message to Arsenal after Premier League title win
“It was better than last season,” the City number nine added. “I felt we could’ve still pushed a little more in the league, but again it’s over now, so it’s easy to say now. And in the end, we won two trophies which is important, but in the end we want the Premier (League) as well.”
On Manchester City’s travelling fans, the striker said: “Again, the support means everything. They keep on supporting even though we’re under 1-0 on a Tuesday night, 8pm in Bournemouth – a long trip!
“What can we say?! Just thank you! The support means a lot, and we appreciate it more than maybe sometimes we show. We appreciate every single one of you!”
An official confirmation of Guardiola’s departure could come anytime before Sunday, when City will bid farewell to departing players Bernardo Silva and John Stones before next week’s open bus parade that will celebrate the achievements of the men’s and women’s sides this season – and most likely give fans a chance to say goodbye to their greatest-ever manager.
