FC Barcelona were unable to end their 2025-26 season on a high note as they were defeated 3-1 by Valencia at Mestalla in the last game of the season. As a result, Hansi Flick was quite disappointed as he appeared in front of the media after the game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German coach admitted that his team deservedly lost this game. The Barcelona coach rued the mistakes made by his team that led to the defeat:
“We made easy mistakes and they took advantage of them… Valencia’s victory was more than deserved… We were not 100% focused.”
The German tactician was clear that the hosts deserved the win with their performance:
“They were hungrier than us; Valencia deserved the victory.”
While the result would not have any significant impact on the team, Flick was still disappointed with the performance:
“That does not affect the good season we have had. I’m disappointed, but the season has been good. Still, it’s important to analyze things from this match — it was not a good performance.”
The Barcelona trainer was already asking his players to return with full focus after the World Cup:
“The World Cup is a major event and the players are focused on it, but next season will be tougher and I want everyone 100% focused. Now we can go to the World Cup or on holiday and rest, but what matters is Barça, and when we return we will continue our journey and I want 100% commitment from everyone.”
The German coach highlighted some positives from the last few weeks:
“Now is not the time to make big assessments, but in recent weeks when we kept clean sheets and played very serious matches, that was very good. Seeing ‘Bernie’ (Bernal) or Gavi return from injuries has been great… That is the mentality I want from the players — to see that mentality… Champions never stop being champions.”
Meanwhile, Flick ensured that he is already driven for the upcoming challenges with the club:
“I am ready, I have that hunger. I want players with that commitment, so that everyone — players and staff — can give their best for this badge.”
The German coach spoke highly of Robert Lewandowski as the Pole scored in his last game for the Catalan side:
“Of course, he deserved to say goodbye on the pitch. He is always in the right position, you can see it, and that is why he scores so many goals.”
Meanwhile, the Barcelona coach also praised Marc Bernal and wanted more from him next season:
“He has the mentality Barça needs and he is ready. Next season he must take another step forward.”
This was the last press conference from Hansi Flick this season. The German coach may now get some much needed rest, before returning to ensure his Barcelona team’s success once again next season.
