Werder defender Julian Malatini ruled out for the season | OneFootball

Werder Bremen have lost defender Julian Malatini to a season-ending ankle injury.

Werder said on Tuesday the centre-back sustained a syndesmosis ligament tear in his ankle during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Mainz.

Head coach Daniel Thioune said it was incredibly disappointing for the club and, above all, for Malatini.

He added that the defender had just started to find his rhythm and get regular football, and that the club would support him through his recovery.

Malatini has featured in 11 matches for Werder this season.
