West Brom are in talks to bring Celtic coach Gavin Strachan into James Morrison’s backroom team as part of a summer overhaul.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Morrison wants to recruit the 47-year-old, the son of Scotland legend Gordon, as he finalises plans for his first full season in charge at The Hawthorns.
Strachan has spent the last six years on Celtic’s staff, working under Neil Lennon, Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and, most recently, Martin O’Neill. A former midfielder with spells at Coventry and Hartlepool, he previously served as Darren Ferguson’s assistant at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough.
Morrison has been moving to lock in his coaching team before pre-season and remains hopeful Matt Gill will stay after the pair guided the Baggies to Championship safety in the final weeks of last season.
He is also interested in adding former Middlesbrough team-mate Tony McMahon to his staff. McMahon played alongside Morrison in the 2004 FA Youth Cup-winning side and was most recently director of football at York City.
Morrison has said the staff could be reshaped this summer, and that he chose not to add during the run-in after meeting a couple of candidates.
Albion are also close to their first signings of the summer, with deals for forwards Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan. Stewart is poised to join from Falkirk for a seven-figure sum, with 20-year-old Morgan arriving from Chelsea for around £1.3million.
