West Bromwich Albion should target Tottenham Hotspur youngster Mikey Moore, who is linked with a move to Hull City.
Squad building and the transfer window is beginning to pick up as players return for pre-season training across the country, and West Bromwich Albion are among those clubs looking for something of a rebuild and rejuvenation this summer.
The Baggies have already seen the departures of some high-profile first-teamers, such as Semi Ajayi, John Swift and Grady Diangana, whilst Ryan Mason has been brought in to replace Tony Mowbray as their new manager.
Mason, who was a part of Ange Postecoglou’s UEFA Europa League-winning coaching staff last season at Tottenham Hotspur, is expected to build a youthful and exciting squad to sustain a promotion challenge in the Championship next season.
One player who should be prioritised as an incoming deal would be Spurs youngster Mikey Moore, especially if key man Tom Fellows was indeed to leave The Hawthorns this summer.
Moore, who was likened to Neymar by teammate at Spurs, James Maddison, after his performance against AZ Alkmaar last season, looks as though he could be on the move this summer, with Football League World exclusively revealing that Hull City are interested in the 17-year-old.
With Thomas Frank now having replaced Postecoglou, who had given Moore some game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would be a perfect opportunity for Championship clubs to pounce.
Moore has shown flashes of brilliance in his limited appearances for Spurs thus far and, at just 17, there is seemingly a very high ceiling for the Southwark-born attacker.
He scored his first Spurs goal last season in a victory over Elfsborg in January, but he has shown an excellent scoring touch with England at youth level, becoming a consistent threat at both U16 and U17 level, whilst also performing well at this summer’s UEFA U19 European Championships.
Goal scoring is something that the Baggies will most likely be prioritising this summer with loanees Will Lankshear and Adam Armstrong both returning to their parent clubs, as well as Swift and Diangana leaving the club.
Daryl Dike’s injury record means his future is likely up in the air and West Brom lacked goals across the park, with only Josh Maja hitting double figures and only Alex Mowatt and Karlan Grant the other players to have scored more than four goals across all competitions.
Replacing Tom Fellows at The Hawthorns is likely to be more than a one-man job, with the England U21 international of such a level that he will leave a massive hole in the Albion final third.
However, with Fellows rumoured to be interesting Everton, Moore would provide a similar set of skills to Fellows in terms of his speed and directness down the wing.
Fellows provided the joint most assists in the Championship last season, alongside Josh Murphy of Portsmouth, so the gap left by his possible departure will be a big one, but Moore has certainly showed signs of being able to carry a team on his shoulders and drive them forward with an impressive exuberance and confidence, perhaps best showed in that game against AZ in October 2024.
Moore would represent a smart attacking addition, and someone who would likely benefit from linking up with someone who he has worked with before in Mason.
Signing such a young player to potentially be a key player for you is always a relatively risky move, but Moore’s level is such that any risk is offset by the experience he has already accrued as well as just how highly-rated he is – and it would be a bit of a coup should West Brom land him.
