West Brom face an anxious wait after reports of an alleged PSR breach that could bring a points deduction. The stage of the process and any potential sanction remain unclear, with supporters of Albion and other relegation-threatened clubs already speculating.

The club said in a statement that it believes it has fully complied with the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules, and will continue to co-operate with the Club Financial Reporting Unit to resolve the matter. It added that success on the pitch in the final four games remains the absolute priority.

Clubs have until 31 December to file their 24/25 accounts, which are then assessed. If a breach is identified, a compliance report is issued, the club has 14 days to respond, and a hearing must take place within 28 days. A hearing could therefore fall after the final day.

A breach of up to two million pounds carries a three-point penalty, rising to four points at four million pounds. The EFL can apply mitigation if losses have reduced year on year, which would apply to Albion and could see one point returned from any sanction.

In the meantime, Albion will seek as many points as possible to build a cushion. Any deduction appears highly likely to be challenged via an EFL appeal and, if required, court action. Securing safety on the pitch would limit potential complications.
