According to ExpressAndStar.com, West Brom are working on a deal to sign French right-back Nolan Galves from Ligue 2 side Rodez, with Southampton also pushing.

The 23-year-old is a leading target as Albion look to bolster their wide defensive options. Talks are ongoing and the club are hopeful of progress in the coming days, with the player set to choose his preferred destination.

Head coach James Morrison wants further additions and has said the club are working extremely hard before the new Championship season. The update follows Connor Townsend’s confirmed return to The Hawthorns on Friday.

Galves made 36 appearances for Rodez last season and registered eight assists, including one in the Ligue 1 promotion or relegation play-off.

QPR and Millwall have also been linked this summer, along with Young Boys and Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.

If he joins, Galves would be Albion’s sixth summer signing and their third defensive addition. Young centre-back Carter Pinnington arrived from Liverpool last month, before Townsend completed his return.

Defence remains a priority, but Albion are also targeting wide attacking reinforcements. Mikey Johnston is the only recognised senior winger in Morrison’s squad, and the club retain interest in bringing Danny Imray back.

Pre-season preparations continued on Saturday with a 4-1 win at League Two Shrewsbury Town. Another Albion XI lost 3-1 to Notts County in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier in the day.
