West Bromwich MP Sarah Coombes has asked the EFL to explain West Bromwich Albion’s two-point deduction for profit and sustainability rules. Imposed on Friday, it left Albion at risk before a draw with Ipswich Town on Saturday confirmed safety.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, supporters at The Hawthorns voiced anger towards league officials during the match, believing the punishment was excessive.

Coombes has written to EFL chief executive Trevor Birch and shared her letter on social media. She said the decision had united and angered constituents and that thousands of Albion fans had expressed dismay, adding that she was seeking answers on their behalf.

She asked for written reasons for the two-point sanction, why the EFL regards donations to the club’s charitable arm as a punishable offence, and why the investigation and ruling arrived so late in the season.

Coombes said reports put the breach at less than £two million, which she described as the smallest ever breach of P&S rules across the Championship and Premier League. She cited Albion’s history of fighting injustice and said she shares supporters’ anger at the decision and its communication.
