West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is in a legal dispute with Nottingham Forest over his early season sacking. According to The Athletic, lawyers have been hired to act against his former club.

The terms have not been disclosed, and sources describe it as acrimonious on both sides. The case continues while Nuno tries to lift West Ham from the relegation zone.

Nuno signed a three-year deal on June 20 after a season the club hailed as incredible, securing European football for the first time in 30 years. Forest finished seventh to reach the Europa League.

He won manager of the month three times and oversaw Forest’s longest top-flight winning run since 1967. His position came under threat after Edu became global head of football across Evangelos Marinakis’s clubs, and the pair clashed at their first meeting.

Edu then joined talks that led Marinakis to dismiss Nuno three games into the season, followed by Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira. It was the first time a Premier League club had four full-time managers in one season.

Forest cited recent circumstances when sacking him. Nuno had criticised recruitment and said his relationship with Marinakis had cooled.

Dismissed 75 days after signing, a significant payoff might have been expected, though it is unclear if money is involved. West Ham are level with 17th-placed Forest after a 1-0 win at Fulham. Forest drew 2-2 at Manchester City, and West Ham remain in the bottom three on goal difference.
