Weverton has been named in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad, the Grêmio goalkeeper a late surprise alongside Alisson and Ederson.
According to Globo.com, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed 26 call-ups on Monday, and the 38-year-old is set for his second finals after being selected by Tite for Qatar 2022.
He saw off competition from Bento of Al-Nassr, Hugo Souza of Corinthians and John of Nottingham Forest, all listed in the 55-man provisional pool.
Weverton becomes the ninth Grêmio player to be taken by Brazil to a World Cup, while Rivarola featured in 1998 for Paraguay.
Previous Grêmio representatives for Brazil were Alcindo in 1966, Everaldo in 1970, Batista and Paulo Isidoro in 1982, Valdo in 1986, Anderson Polga and Luizão in 2002, and Pedro Geromel in 2018, the most recent.
From the current squad, Mathías Villasantti and Fabián Balbuena are on Paraguay’s 55-name provisional list, and forward Amuzu remains on Ghana’s radar.
