The Owls have endured a difficult 2025 both on and off the pitch, with several key players leaving in the summer due to financial problems.

Chansiri has come under extreme fire from supporters to sell his stake in the Championship side.

Transfer embargoes and late payments of wages have dominated the problems behind the scenes, with the team now struggling in the bottom half of the Championship table.

Here we look at all the latest news surrounding John Textor’s reported interest in purchasing Sheffield Wednesday

John Textor makes major ownership decision

Textor is an experienced owner in football. The American was previously involved with Crystal Palace, and currently has control of clubs like Lyon and Botafogo as part of his Eagle Football Group.

However, it’s been reported that the businessman is eyeing a deal with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis that could see him walk away from both clubs.

Textor has become unpopular among supporters of the French and Brazilian sides and it’s understood he is now considering a move that will see him cut ties with the teams.

The 59-year-old is a figurehead for the Eagle Football Group, but this step could see separate from the investment firm, which would line up with reports surrounding his interest in Sheffield Wednesday.

It was reported in August that Textor is seeking to raise funds in order to invest in Sheffield Wednesday.

It’s believed that the American is seeking a takeover that will not involve the Eagle Football Group.

Given the reports about his ownership of Lyon and Botafogo, this could all be lining up as long as he is able to raise those funds.

Textor’s investment firm sold their roughly 43 per cent stake in Crystal Palace earlier this year for a reported £190 million, although it remains to be seen just how much of this went to the prospective Owls owner.

It was also reported late last month that Textor is set for talks over the potential purchase of Sheffield Wednesday.

The businessman remains very interested in a takeover of the club, and he registered that interest with Chansiri.

It remains unclear whether he will be willing to meet the £100 million asking price that has been set by the owner.

It was reported earlier this month that Chansiri is seeking external investment in Sheffield Wednesday that could allow him to keep his control of the club.

It’s been claimed that he was able to raise funds in order to pay his players and staff on time for August.

While there are believed to be several interested parties in a purchase of the Yorkshire outfit, it’s believed that Chansiri is keen to remain in charge for the time being.

Chansiri is reportedly hoping to raise funds through possible loans that will keep the bills paid for now, with cashflow remaining a key issue for the Championship side.
