Jamie Vardy has been linked with a return to Leicester City just 12 months after his exit

Jamie Vardy’s 13-year career at Leicester City came to an end with relegation from the Premier League in 2025.

The 39-year-old exited after the Foxes finished 18th in the table, ending a legendary stint at the King Power that cemented him as one of the club’s best ever players.

Vardy made the switch to Italian side Cremonese, where he has become an important part of their first team squad.

However, the Serie A side are at risk of suffering relegation this season, and the striker’s future has become the subject of speculation.

The former England international has contributed six goals and two assists from 27 appearances in the top flight this year.

However, his wife Rebekah has quashed the speculation of a potential return to the Leicestershire outfit.

She has commented on an Instagram post, via Josh Holland on X: “Fake news I’m afraid.”

Vardy signed a 12-month contract with Cremonese last summer, but it included the option for a one-year extension.

It remains to be seen whether that extension will be triggered, particularly with the club’s league status yet to be confirmed.

Giampaolo’s side have two games left to overcome the gap to Lecce in 17th, which could prove crucial to determining Vardy’s future.

Meanwhile, Leicester are preparing for life in League One, where they will be hoping to earn promotion straight back to the Championship.

Gary Rowett took charge of the team in February, but he was unable to maintain the club’s status in the second tier, as they suffered relegation alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United.

It remains to be seen who will be in charge of the squad next season, as the 52-year-old was given a contract until the end of the current campaign.

But it is looking unlikely that Vardy will be an option for the next head coach, with the striker’s future away from the King Power for the time being.
