Wolves and Aston Villa will receive £117.7m and £182.6m respectively from a record Premier League distribution, after contrasting finales to the season. Wolves were relegated, while Villa finished in the Champions League places.

The Athletic reports that clubs will share more than £three billion, the highest sum the league has ever paid out. The increase is driven by stronger overseas TV deals, which account for around half of payouts, and the first year of a new domestic broadcast cycle, with more games shown live in the UK than ever before.

Wolves’ eight-year stay in the top flight is over, and they now head into the Championship for the first time since 2018. Relegated clubs receive parachute payments, though these fall well short of Premier League revenues.

They finished bottom after spending most of the campaign at the foot of the table. Their take is about £1.6m less than 19th-placed Burnley, whom they could have overtaken with a final-day win at Turf Moor.

Villa sealed fourth following victory over Man City on the last day.
