Despite having played an important role in Hansi Flick’s plans during the last two seasons, the forward Ferran Torres is one of the FC Barcelona players who is facing quite an uncertain future at the Catalan club.
There is only a single year left on his contract, and despite the club’s recent policy of not going into a season with only one year left on a player’s contract, they have not yet begun negotiations for his renewal.
Meanwhile, he is also enjoying interest from one of the richest clubs in Europe, Paris Saint-Germain, where Luis Enrique reportedly wants the former Manchester City forward to strengthen his attack. However, the Parisians have not yet communicated their plans about the player to Barcelona and the Blaugranes have also not received any offer for him yet.
In such a context, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are committed to offering the Spaniard a new contract, but they want to wait until the end of the current summer transfer window, in September, to renew him. This is mainly because if the forward renewed during the transfer window, the Catalans would have a lower Financial Fair Play margin to bring in new signings.
As things stand, Barcelona are prioritizing strengthening their team and then addressing any renewal operations, and that too only if a player is willing to stay. This priority for new signings could be because of their concern that their 1:1 status will not last for long.
For now, Ferran Torres is still in the United States, as he helped Spain secure a place in the World Cup 2026 final after a 2-0 win against France last night. With the final scheduled to take place on 19 July, there are still some days till he concludes this campaign, and after that, it remains to be seen whether he would wait till September to get a renewal offer or decide to join another club this summer.
