Benfica could face an unusual twist this season, potentially needing Sporting to win the Taça de Portugal to aid their European route.

For now, Benfica sit second on 72 points after beating their eternal rivals in the last round. They are one point ahead of Sporting, who have a game in hand.

With the title all but out of reach, second place, which leads to Champions League qualifiers, looks the most realistic target for José Mourinho’s side.
