With the World Cup in full swing, MLS has taken a back seat on both the national and international stage. The USMNT won its match against Bosnia and qualified for the Round of 16 of the biggest tournament in the sport.
It is only the second time the country has won a knockout match, the first coming at the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
However, one name that caused quite a stir at the time, due to his omission from the squad, was Diego Luna, the current Real Salt Lake player.
In recent days, that same name has been making headlines again, but this time linked with a move to Liga MX.
According to the Argentine sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Real Salt Lake rejected a bid from CF Monterrey for attacking midfielder Diego Luna.
As the aforementioned journalist said, the bid was around $3.5 million, lower than what the Calret and Cobat expected. For that reason, the MLS club will keep the 22-year-old attacker.
If you look at any portal that shows the market value of a soccer player, Luna’s value is around $8-10 million, meaning that the offer from the Mexican side was incredibly low.
This is the reason why the American did not leave the club. The organization was expecting a fee close to $10 million for an extremely young player, 22 is young in football, who is also crucial to Real Salt Lake's great start to the season.
This season, Diego Luna played nine games, scoring four goals and delivering one assist. He also played pretty much every single friendly game for the USMNT as an offensive midfielder, where he scored one goal, but was surprisingly left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s call-up for the World Cup.
With this news, Real Salt Lake fans can enjoy a little bit more from Diego Luna.
