Windfall for Bayern: Irankunda transfer brings in millions | OneFootball

This summer transfer window, FC Bayern is not only working on new signings but also on generating additional revenue. Now, the Munich club could benefit from a former player. According to media reports, Nestory Irankunda is on the verge of a move to Sporting Lisbon—and the record champions are set to earn a share of the transfer fee.

Following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, Bayern’s executives are also focusing on the financial side of squad planning. Sporting Director Max Eberl wants to generate additional revenue to balance the transfer books.

And now, of all people, a former player could be the source of fresh funds.

Irankunda set to join Sporting

As reported by the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Nestory Irankunda is on the verge of a move from Watford FC to Sporting Lisbon. According to the report, both clubs are in advanced talks. The transfer fee is said to be around 15 million euros, plus potential bonus payments.

The Australian national team player had only moved to England from FC Bayern last year. During the World Cup, the winger drew attention with strong performances and also scored a goal.

Bayern is expected to receive a substantial share of the transfer fee.

From a financial standpoint, the potential transfer is particularly attractive for the Munich club. According to consistent media reports, FC Bayern secured not only a buyback option when selling him to Watford but also a 50 percent resale clause.

However, it remains unclear exactly how this clause is structured. If the share applies to the total transfer fee, Bayern would be entitled to approximately 7.5 million euros based on a base transfer fee of 15 million euros.

If, on the other hand, it is a profit-sharing arrangement, the revenue would be slightly lower. Since Watford signed the forward for around 3 million euros, the profit would be 12 million euros. Bayern would receive about 6 million euros of that amount.

Either way, the deal would be a financial success for the record champions. Most recently, the Munich club benefited from a similar clause following Tanguy Nianzou’s transfer from FC Sevilla to OSC Lille. Should Irankunda’s transfer to Sporting become official in the coming days, Max Eberl could add another million-euro sum to the transfer fund and take an important step closer to his goal of a balanced transfer budget.
