Wanderers are set to be backed in large numbers next season despite their relegation

Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters were given very few reasons to be cheerful throughout the 2025/26 Premier League season, and the club are now preparing for a first stint in the EFL for eight years as a result.

Less than a decade on from featuring in the UEFA Europa League following their last promotion from the Championship under Nuno Espírito Santo as title winners, Rob Edwards will be hoping to repeat such feats in his first full season at Molineux.

The 43-year-old has still split opinion amongst fans in WV1 during his first months in charge after exiting upcoming divisional rivals, Middlesbrough, in controversial fashion just months after he was appointed at the Riverside Stadium, but he will hope that all associated with the Black Country outfit are unified ahead of the upcoming 46-game campaign.

It has been well-documented that Wolves are in need of a major rebuild, although the early signs in terms of transfer activity are proving to be somewhat encouraging.

Despite the fact the club are reportedly set to lose Joao Gomes to La Liga giants, Atlético Madrid, for £39m, his midfield partner, Andre, stunned plenty by committing to a new four-year contract ahead of the Premier League season's final day, whilst Kieran Trippier has 'verbally agreed' to sign an initial two-year deal, and links have emerged between Wanderers and both Jordan James and Ellis Simms.

After enduring such a dismal season, especially on home turf, some clubs would potentially raise major concerns over a loss of matchday revenue as well as overall support for Edwards and his players, but that hasn't proven to be the case.

Wolves confirm major season ticket update ahead of 2026/27 EFL Championship season

That's because, on the morning of Saturday, May 30th, just six days after the conclusion of their relegation campaign against fellow second tier newcomers, Burnley, the club's official X account revealed that 20,368 season tickets had been renewed at Molineux, even with the upcoming season not getting underway for another two-and-a-half months.

An original window was put up for existing season ticket holders to renew, and that ended on Friday evening, with prices reduced by 25 percent, despite the fact that the Championship schedule means four more home fixtures are automatically guaranteed.

Due to such reductions, the most expensive adult season ticket renewal cost came in the centre of the Billy Wright Stand at £699, while those who have renewed season tickets will also have the opportunity to relocate between 9AM on Monday, 8th June and 5PM on Wednesday, 10th June.

The aforementioned number of renewals also comes with a catch. Since Wolves were promoted as Championship champions in 2017/18 alongside Cardiff City and Fulham, season tickets have been capped at Molineux to a figure of 22,500.

That means 90 percent of pre-existing season ticket holders had renewed during the now-closed window, and that, if Molineux is to be at a sell-out crowd figure, the rest of approximately 11,000 tickets would come as other season ticket purchases, the buying of stand-alone match tickets and those travelling to the Midlands to support one of their 23 upcoming rivals.

Wolves' average attendance figure during their last EFL Championship stint

Despite coming rock-bottom of the table, Wolves still had a better home record than Burnley in the top-flight as a result of their wins over West Ham United, Aston Villa and Liverpool, as well as successes over the Irons, Everton and Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Cup and FA Cup respectively.

The club does pride itself on loyalty, and that was showcased last season with an average gate of 29,835 despite the obvious shortcomings, meaning 93.96 percent of Molineux was full.

Back in their last Championship season, the average attendance at the historic, yet modernised stadium sat at 28,342, meaning a similar figure would be expected this time around, due to a handful of supporters potentially not opting to renew season tickets, as well as the variation of eventual away allocations, such is the variety of fanbase levels in the second tier.
