Wolves expect Fer Lopez to feature in Championship squad | OneFootball

Fer Lopez is expected to be part of Wolves’ Championship squad next season despite links to another move, ExpressAndStar.com understands.

The 22-year-old joined last summer from Celta Vigo in a £19.5 million deal. He made 12 appearances in all competitions, with two Premier League starts, before returning to Celta on loan in January without an option to buy.

Wolves are planning for the attacker to report back this summer and compete for a place under head coach Rob Edwards in pre-season. There are currently no plans to sell him or send him out on loan as the club push for an instant Premier League return.

Celta Vigo sporting director Marco Garces said the club would try to bring Lopez back to Spain for 2026/27, adding they would get creative and explore options through the summer.

On his first game back, Lopez scored against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League, and he also netted in La Liga in a 3-2 win at Valencia.

Celta finished sixth in La Liga and will play in the Europa League again next season. Lopez came through at the club and broke into the first team in the second half of 2024/25, scoring four times in 20 matches before his move to Wolves.

Earlier this season he admitted he had not been entirely ready for English football, saying the style at Wolves differed from Spain, the league’s physicality was a challenge, and he needed more time and minutes that did not arrive.
