Wolves have seen off rival interest to reach a verbal agreement with former England full-back Kieran Trippier on a two-year deal, with an option of a third, according to ExpressAndStar.com. The deal is set to be completed once the La Liga winner returns from holiday, and Rob Edwards has been integral to talks.
The 35-year-old is set to be Wolves' first summer addition, with the club also linked with a move for former striker Raul Jimenez. The update follows last week's news that Brazilian international Andre has committed to the club for next season.
Supporters greeted the Trippier development as an excellent start to the window and argued the squad needs leadership and experience that he would provide.
Some even suggested he should be made captain.
Others praised owners Fosun after previous criticism over decisions that led to relegation, calling the potential signing a possible show of intent and saying they could finally look forward to next season.
One fan marvelled that, in the Championship, the club could have a Brazilian international and an England international who scored in a World Cup semi-final. Another labelled it the best signing in years, while Edwards and chairman Nathan Shi were urged to keep the business coming.
