Wolves fans turned their ire on VAR despite a red card for a Sunderland hair pull early in their clash.
With the Black Cats 1-0 up and dominant, a VAR check for violent conduct halted play. According to ExpressAndStar.com, confusion cleared only when replays showed a possible tangle between Dan Ballard and Tolu Arokodare.
Referee Paul Tierney consulted the pitchside monitor to assess whether Ballard had pulled the Wolves forward’s hair. Hair pulling has become a flashpoint recently, with a handful of players punished. After review, Tierney dismissed Ballard.
The initial roar at the red card soon gave way to anti-VAR chants, including 'boring, boring' and 'It's not football anymore', even though the call benefited Wolves.
Some supporters also aimed corruption chants at the Premier League. Wolves followers have long opposed the technology, and the club has even moved to have it scrapped.
