Aurélien Tchouaméni left training on Friday with adductor pain and will miss France’s last 16 tie against Paraguay on Saturday at 23:00 in Philadelphia. According to L'Équipe, he could also miss a potential quarter-final on nine July.

An MRI conducted immediately revealed a small lesion that requires a minimum healing period, leaving the Real Madrid midfielder very doubtful for any quarter-final.

A further assessment will be made before then and the decision will depend on how the national team’s vice-captain feels. It currently appears more likely he returns from the semi-final on 14 July in Dallas, if all goes well.

The pain is not considered insurmountable and, given the specific muscle involved, he could play through it. Even so, there is no intention to take any risk, particularly if France keep progressing.

In the meantime, AS Roma midfielder Manu Koné will partner Adrien Rabiot against Paraguay. That pairing was used against Iraq, a 3-0 win on 22 June, and will be asked to do the job.
