Wrexham are weighing up a move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with Millwall and Wolves also interested, according to Sky Sports News. The Welsh club are said to hope the £8m to £10m asking price can be negotiated.

He has two years left on his contract and is currently third choice at the Stadium of Light. He is available for transfer this summer.

Patterson played a key role in last season's promotion from the Championship, then lost his starting place under Regis Le Bris after Robin Roefs arrived from NEC Nijmegen.

Short of minutes, he joined Millwall on loan in January to work under former Sunderland boss Alex Neil. He quickly became first choice and helped the Lions reach the Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten by Hull City.

Competition for places on Wearside is intense. Melker Ellborg is understood to be content as number two, while Patterson is not thought to share that stance.

The academy graduate wants regular football at this stage of his career. Sunderland's valuation may test most Championship budgets, and there is hope from the player's side that the club will be realistic if a move materialises.
