West Ham have continued their business ahead of the 2026/27 Barclays Women’s Super League season by confirming the signing of highly-rated midfielder Sienna Wareing.
The England youth international becomes the latest player to arrive in east London this summer. The Hammers continue to invest in young talent as they look to build a squad capable of competing throughout the upcoming campaign. Despite being at the beginning of her career, Wareing arrives with an impressive reputation after progressing through the England pathway. There, she has established herself as one of the country’s brightest midfield prospects.
Wareing’s move represents another statement of intent from West Ham. They have made no secret of their ambition to add players who can contribute immediately and develop into key figures in the years ahead.
The midfielder has impressed throughout her development with her technical ability, composure under pressure and intelligence in possession. Comfortable operating in a deeper midfield role, Wareing is capable of dictating the tempo of a game while also driving her side forward through her passing range and movement on the ball. Alongside her qualities in possession, she is recognised for her work rate off the ball, making her a well-rounded option.
Her performances at youth level have earned her regular involvement with England’s Young Lionesses, where she has gained valuable experience competing against some of Europe’s most talented young players. Those opportunities have allowed her to continue her development in a high-performance environment, preparing her for the next step in her career with a Women’s Super League club.
Speaking after completing the move, Wareing expressed her delight at joining West Ham and described the opportunity as an exciting next step in her development. The midfielder admitted she is looking forward to meeting her new teammates, working with the coaching staff and embracing the challenge of playing in the Women’s Super League.
For a young player looking to establish herself in senior football, West Ham offer an environment where talented youngsters have been trusted to develop. The club has shown a willingness to provide opportunities to emerging players in recent seasons. Something that will no doubt have played a role in Wareing’s decision to make the move to east London.
The signing also reflects the recruitment strategy the Hammers have adopted ahead of the new campaign. While experience remains an important part of any successful squad, identifying and developing young talent has become increasingly valuable within the women’s game, particularly with the growing competitiveness of the WSL.
Wareing’s arrival gives manager Rehanne Skinner another technically gifted midfield option as preparations continue for the new season. Her versatility means she can operate in a number of midfield roles. Whether that’s sitting deeper to help build attacks from defence or pushing further forward to support play in advanced areas. That flexibility could prove to be a valuable asset across a long and demanding campaign.
Although supporters may need to be patient as Wareing adapts to senior football, there is no doubting her potential. Her performances for England’s youth sides have demonstrated her ability to perform under pressure. Meanwhile, her confidence in possession suggests she has the attributes needed to make the transition into the Women’s Super League.
With pre-season now underway, Wareing will have the opportunity to settle into her new surroundings before competitive action begins. Building relationships with her new teammates and adapting to the intensity of senior football will be key during the coming weeks. However, the midfielder arrives with all the qualities needed to make a positive impression.
The signing of Sienna Wareing represents another exciting addition for the Hammers. While her senior journey is only just beginning, the Young Lioness arrives in east London with plenty of promise. Supporters will be eager to see how one of England’s most exciting young midfielders develops in Claret and Blue.
