According to a report from L’Équipe journalist Loïc Tanzi, Zion Suzuki’s (23) proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed due to the goalkeeper’s desire to play in the Premier League. The Japanese international stopper is now set to complete a deal to join Aston Villa from Parma ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old had all but agreed to move to the Parc des Princes and join the Ligue 1 champions. However, the Birmingham club’s arrival at the last hour saw the prospective move collapse. Suzuki’s agents are indicating that the prospect of playing in the English first division with a gurantee of being first choice was something the American-born goalkeeper couldn’t turn down.
When Les Parisiens entered into advanced negotiations to sign the Parma goalkeeper, questions were raised surrounding the future of Lucas Chevalier (25). The French international was relegated to second choice behind Safonov last season and the arrival of another goalkeeper would likely have seen him depart. Nevertheless with Villa now set to sign the 23-year-old stopper, Chevalier may remain at PSG.
